Styling pesky corners

If you're the kind of person that struggles to leave negative space in the room, this blog is for you!

One of the most common frustrations of styling your interior space can be how to fill those pesky corners in a room.

Some corners naturally don't experience this emptiness – it can be where there is shelving, or your couch is wedged in there (although where possible, I prefer to float furniture .. but more on that another day), or it's the spot for a bedside table.

But then there are 'those corners'… the pesky ones. They appear just after you've perfected your furniture placement; everything has its spot, and just when you think you can breathe a satisfied sigh for a job well done … you realise there's a blank spot right there in the corner, and it just looks like it needs to be filled. It is an eternal catch-22!

Let me help you out by sharing some quick and easy styling tips that I have found to deliver the corner-filling goods; without creating the feeling that you've crammed your space to the brim with every available item in your house.

Plants

Ya’ll know l love greenery when styling! I also love using floor plants with height; they are a great organic way to add visual interest to any space. Don't worry if so far you seem to have an uncanny knack for killing off every plant you've ever look at; there are some great 'no-fuss plants out there that you can utilise. Some of my favourites are:

  • Kentia Palm | A classic choice for any home

  • Zanzibar Gem | Thrives on neglect

  • Monstera Deliciosa | Big leafy, easy care

  • Fiddle Leaf Fig | Beautiful , low maintenance

Lighting

Lamps are an excellent option for illuminating dark corners, but you do need to ensure you have a powerpoint close by – there's nothing worse than seeing an extension cord snaking its way across the space!

A lamp on its own can look a little out of place; so simply add an occasional table for a table lamp.

For a floor lamp, place a comfy occasional chair with it to create a cosy nook and give the corner purpose.

Or why not hang a pendant light in the corner if the structure allows for it?
